Charles Loupot
1892 - 1962
Charles Loupot is one of the most significant of the Art Deco poster artists. He studied art in his native Switzerland and began his career doing illustrations for fashion designers and small shops. His outstanding talent quickly became obvious and in 1923, he moved to Paris where he worked along with the other leading Deco artists of that era, Cassandre, Carlu, and Colin.
In 1925, Loupot won the competition for the poster to advertise the famous Exposition Internationale des Arts Decoratifs, creating the term “Art Deco”, the style of French art which dominated between WWI and WWII.
Loupot was a perfectionist. He worked long and tediously to produce posters that actually appear simple and easy.
